HUMC is involved in outreach locally, nationally, and internationally.
Local Outreach: Donates to the Interfaith Food Pantry; preparing Thanksgiving food baskets for needy elderly; providing Christmas gifts to needy children; Vacation Bible School outreach to local children; providing backpacks with school supplies to needy children; supporting our local retirement community, Wesley Meadows; helping with needs of Camp Lake Stephens; Backpack Angel, a programming providing supplemental food for children faced with food insecurities for the weekend during the school year, 5 Loaves and 2 Fish, a summer ministry providing food for children and their families who are faced with food insecurity and the children do not have the consistent meals they receive at school, and assisting with many other needs as they arise.
National Outreach: Disaster Response to help those who have experienced natural disasters; providing lodging and meals at our church for mission groups needing a place to stay as they travel, (for groups on their way to and from Hurricane Katrina clean-up and re-building); providing lodging and meals for those who have been displaced during times of disaster; response to other needs as they arise. We also take mission trips in the U.S. to places like UMCOR headquarters in LA. UMCOR is the disaster response ministry of the United Methodist Church.
World Outreach: HUMC has sent mission teams over the last few years to Honduras and to the Dominican Republic. Individuals also have the opportunity to go with the enatobia District Mission team to El Salvador during June. We support Stop Hunger Now, an organization dedicated to ending hunger in our lifetime (we purchase and pack 20,000 meals annually); Nothing but Nets to prevent malaria, a leading cause of death in children in Africa;the Methodist Children's home in Jackson, MS; the United Methodist support of numerous world-wide projects that help those in need; and other mission needs worldwide as they arise.
