I'm New Here: FAQs

Please stop by our Hospitality Desk located just outside the worship area where someone will be happy to assist you with any questions or directions to make your visit as comfortable as possible.  You are always invited to come by our church office where any of our staff members will be happy to talk to you and provide information.

Common Questions:

What should I wear?
Whatever you feel comfortable in.  From the start, we want you to know that HUMC cares about what you are on the inside, not what you look like on the outside.  Persons dress from very casual to coat/tie, with the greater percentage being in between with business casual.

Where do I park?
We have visitor spaces on both sides of our church.  We have visitor parking spaces marked on both the North and South sides of the church.  There are handicapped parking spaces on both sides of the church, close to our entrances.

Where do I go once I am inside?
Our door greeters will be happy to help you find your way to our worship area as well as our Sunday School classes.  The nursery and children's area is most easily accessed  from the south parking lot.  Signs mark the entrances and areas around the church.

Will I be asked to identify myself as a visitor?
You will not be asked to introduce yourself, wear a special nametag, or anything else that would draw attention that you are a visitor.  We do have a time of greeting in the service.  Everyone is invtied to register their attendance, and if you desire us to contact you, you can inform us on the sign-in pad.

What should I do with my children?
Our nursery is located in the newer building that is located by entering the South Entrance.  As you enter the glass doors under the awning, you will be met by persons who will direct you to the nursery for our children ages 1 – 3.  You should be able to easily find the nursery information on our home page.

Which worship service is right for me?
We have two worship services, one at 8:45 a.m. and the other at 10:55 a.m.  These are both traditional services with a slight touch of blended styles during the greeting and congregational chorus that we sing each Sunday.  The most notable difference is the presence of the Chancel Choir in the 10:55 a.m. service.

What can I expect during a worship service?
  • First, the focus is going to be on God, so do not think you will be embarrassed or pressured to give money or to join the church.  Therefore, relax and focus on experiencing worship.
  • We will be singing songs from the hymnal provided to express our love to God, and you can sing as a means of worship to God from you heart.  At times we will print a hymn or chorus in the bulletin.  The chancel choir is present for the 10:55 a.m. worship.
  • You will often witness and be invited to share in the Christian sacraments of baptism (infant or adult) and/or communion (regularly on first Sunday).
  • Our pastor will share a relevant message and will at times include teaching notes in the bulletin with the Bible verses that pertain to the message.
  • Our service generally lasts one hour.

Are you going to ask me for money when I attend?
We do take an offering during each worship service, but as our guest your presence is your gift to us.  If you choose to give an offering, we thank you for your blessing to God’s work through the ministry of HUMC.
